Shop Monochrome

Okay — Let's talk shopping! Why do we shop? Have you ever asked yourself that question? God knows we all have enough clothes — so what is it — really??

Is it — this time maybe I'll find that "Whatever" that will make me feel beautiful — younger — thinner — We all want those around us to say "Wow — you look great" — It is possible — and let me just add — it has nothing to do with your age — your weight — your height. It does require a little work on your wardrobe. Here is a secret to all of this that I learned many years ago — I almost always dress in one color. Right now — you're saying "what does that mean?" What I just said — ONE color — all white (or any color) I will look taller — thinner (even in white) There are no broken lines — I don't cut myself off in the middle. One color is striking and planned  — it always works.

I even wear jewelry that is the same — silver only — or gold only — including any trimmings on bags or shoes.

So — go to your closet _ see what you need to give yourself that one color look and then go shopping — (white outfit, white belt?) — and let me know what happens.

Hats, hats, hats!

HATS — It's easy for me to talk about hats — since I wear a lot of them — small brim, large brim, baseball caps, fedoras, evening hats — well, just about every style there is  and right now — you're saying — I'm NOT a hat person — I look silly in a hat — my family will make fun of me — BUT — you are dismissing great solutions in wearing a hat. The obvious one — 1. You're having a really bad hair day — 2. It can tie together a great look — 3. It saves your face from bad sun rays — Really it's an accessory that can do so much. When Diane keaton said on the Ellen Show — "I hate my hair — that's why I wear hats" — I said, "Me too!". Try it — own it — it will change your life.

Shoes, shoes, shoes!

Hello _ when we get older, certain things change — shoes — for instance! I love high heels, but, I have actually become afraid of them — and I walk like I'm afraid — I look down more. I remember my mother walking — always looking down — so she wouldn't fall — now — don't misunderstand — I love flats — boots, loafers, sandals, tennis shoes, BUT, there is nothing better than being 3 1/2 inches taller — it makes us look thinner, more graceful, more sophisticated — So, what can we do? We shop for shoes with a wedge. not only do they give you a high heel look, but they make you feel safer. It's because of the thicker base — and the great news is — they come in every style. Try them — you'll feel young again.

Eyebrows!

Hi — have you noticed all the articles and photos of eyebrows? It seems to be the big focus of this years face. Suddenly, all sorts of products to buy to make our eyebrows more dramatic — the frame our eyes need — the look that Brook Shields made famous. You know what — it works. I went out (of course I did) and bought a few pencils and experimented with darkening my brows — making them fuller and longer — brushing them upward and adding a gloss to keep them that way. I have to say — I look better — it really does frame my eyes — I think it makes my face "pop" and I look a little younger. (Sounds crazy, doesn't it? — It probably is) Let's make this our new mantra — Okay ladies — when we need that shot of confidence — "LET'S PUT ON OUR EYEBROWS!" Wow — don't we look great?!

Garden Update!

Hello Everyone — hope you, your family, and friends all had a wonderful Memorial Day and remembered to pay tribute to all the men and women who gave their lives for us and our country. Remember — on my third blog I showed a photo of my tragic, grey, pitiful garden and I said I would show you God's magic — well — here it is — not even a month later (3 weeks to be exact):

Look — can you believe it — I never get over it — and it will get better and better. I always say to every plant — fight for your life — because I love the garden to be big and lush — so each one must struggle for space. Frank used to say I was Louis the Fourteenth!! He was right!

Define Your Style

Okay — The number 1 question every Spring is: What do I buy this season? First — don't buy something JUST to buy something! Look at the wardrobe you have — What's your favorite "Go To" outfit? — the one you feel the best in — prettiest in — thinnest in — and youngest in. Now — go find THAT style! How do you do that? You need to know why it works for you and what exactly that style is. I know it sounds simple — it's not.

Let me give you an example.  I look much better in a top, blouse, jacket that has a stand-up collar (like a man's shirt) it frames my face — it actually makes me look younger — I know it sounds crazy — but it's not and I never buy anything else — that's just one tip — we'll go through a lot more. I think that dressing (like everything else) is simple if you know the tricks!!

Seasons

I don't know about you, but I never got over the miracle of life. Not just us and all of the animals, but the places we live — the seasons, and the incredible changes that happen. Look at this photo of my herb garden — isn't it awful?! — dry and dead and in just a month it will become a completely different garden — alive, exciting, and thriving. In a few weeks I'll add a new photo so you can see the miracle that happens.

God is good. I do have one tip — buy any alliums (onions) — they never disappoint — they are airy and beautiful and they can flavor so many of your recipes — they're the first herb to come up and they last all season.

You'll see, Xo
